Robotics in Healthcare – current uses and future challenges – Recap

Robots are transforming healthcare in operating rooms, clinical settings, and even research laboratories. By automating manual, repetitive, and high-volume tasks, they empower healthcare professionals and scientists to focus on strategic work and direct patient care.  As robotic technologies evolve, their autonomy will increase, eventually allowing them to perform certain tasks independently. This shift promises to revolutionize healthcare.

Several public funded projects and studies are currently conducted at ETH Zurich, University Hospital Zurich, Balgrist University Hospital, ZHAW as well as in companies to accelerate innovations in robotics for healthcare.

At the event on June 13th, we not only showcased the different developments and current applications (disinfection and cleaning robot at USZ) but also discussed the challenges like existing hospital infrastructures, integrating robots in the workflows and how end-user could be much better involved from the beginning to create acceptable solutions.

A big thank you to all presenters and participants for joining us.
